Huntsman to Hold D.C. Fundraiser

Likely Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is scheduled to hold a Washington, D.C., fundraiser next week, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by Roll Call.

The fundraiser, officially being organized by Huntsman’s political action committee, H PAC, is set for June 15, on the rooftop patio of an office building in Penn Quarter. The host committee includes more than three dozen Republican political operatives, such as lobbyist Allen Shofe and Alexander Castellanos, who is the son of strategist Alex Castellanos.

The 6 p.m. reception is targeting “young professionals,” asking for donations of $50 from individuals in that group. The invitation asks for a general contribution of $100 to attend the event, $250 to serve as a “host” and $1,000 to serve as a “co-chair.” Amounts given can be directly donated or raised from others, according to the invitation.

Huntsman has yet to formally declare for president and won’t participate in the first major debate next week. But he has been traveling to key primary states and campaigning as if he were a full-fledged candidate. Huntsman served as President Barack Obama’s ambassador to China until the end of April and was in the middle of his second term as Utah’s governor when he was appointed to that foreign post.

Clarification: June 8, 2011

An earlier version of this story did not distinguish that it is Alexander Castellanos, not his father, Alex, who is on the host committee.
