HOH’s One-Minute Recess: British Invasion
Someone ring all of the bells (and call Sarah Palin)! The British are coming! The British are coming! Well, OK, they aren’t, but one of their princes is.
Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son, Edward, will be speaking at a reception in honor of the Duke of Edinburgh Award winners at the Capitol on June 20. The award recognizes the achievements of several young people who excel at “physical fitness, community service, adventurous journey and special skills.” (An adventurous journey award?! We want it so badly.)
The prince will be joined at the event by Mississippi GOP Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, the Senate’s resident Shakespeare enthusiast. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) will be there as well.
Recently crowned Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan is also slated to attend. HOH assumes this is because she’s the only American forced to wear a crown daily. Therefore, she and the prince will have much to discuss about how “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown” and other royal troubles.
Back in May, Prince Edward’s older brother Charles, father to newlywed William and rebel Harry, also visited the District.
Two English princes will visit our fair city in as many months? If we didn’t know better, we’d swear they were trying to politely invade, but first they have to answer we these questions three!
