Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has hired Adam Jentleson to succeed Jon Summers as his chief spokesman, Jentleson confirmed Friday.

Jentleson will hold the title of communications director for the Nevada Democrat, but will maintain his current duties within the Democratic Policy and Communications Center, he said. He will continue to work closely with Katie Beirne and Brian Fallon. Beirne and Fallon, top aides to Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer (N.Y.), serve as staff director and chief spokesman, respectively, for the DPCC.

The DPCC was created this year by merging Reid’s communications war room with the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. The new entity is run by Schumer, but includes staff from the offices of Reid, Schumer and DPCC Vice Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (Mich.). Jentleson’s work at the DPCC has included the development of caucus messaging and field press strategies.

Summers is leaving to take a job with GMMB, a political consulting firm with ties to Reid. In addition to serving as the Majority Leader’s chief spokesman, Summers was a top communications deputy at the DPCC. Summers also helped lead Reid’s successful 2010 campaign communications team and had been Reid’s longtime state spokesman before that.
