Allen Names Bill Riggs Campaign Press Secretary

Former Sen. George Allen (R) announced Thursday that Bill Riggs will serve as press secretary for his Virginia Senate campaign.

Riggs is a former spokesman for the Republican National Committee, serving as a regional spokesman during the 2008 cycle and director of regional media for the 2010 midterm elections.

“I am excited to welcome Bill to our team,” Allen said in a press release. “His campaign experience and communications background will be an excellent addition to our dedicated and loyal staff. This will be a hard fought race and I am confident that we are building a winning team.”

Riggs, a Davidson College grad who played Division 1 baseball, joins a press staff that includes Communications Director Katie Wright, another former RNC staffer. Wright was at the RNC for the past two election cycles, serving as RNC deputy communications director last cycle.

According to his bio at the Leadership Institute, where he is a regular guest lecturer, Riggs has also developed national and local media campaigns for corporate clients and interest groups at public affairs firms Rational 360 and DCI Group. He specialized in the issues of energy, environment and health care.
