Hoyer: Weekend Session Possible for House

It may still be early in the week, but House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer put colleagues on notice Tuesday to anticipate working over the weekend.

A notice released by the Maryland Democrat’s office advised Members “that the GOP Leadership may announce that the House could be in session” on Saturday and Sunday.

The House is already scheduled to be in session Friday. Majority Leader Eric Cantor has not announced a change in the schedule, but spokeswoman Laena Fallon said the Virginia Republican has “advised members to keep their schedules flexible.”

“As always, the House will be here if and when needed,” she said in an email.

The House canceled plans to be on recess this week in order to continue working on issues related to deficit reduction. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced Monday that his chamber will stay in session every day, including weekends, until the nation’s debt limit is raised.
