EMILY’s List took a first step Wednesday toward fully supporting former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz’s Senate bid in Connecticut.

The group announced it put Bysiewicz “On the List” of the most promising candidates of the cycle.

EMILY’s List preliminary support is notable because Bysiewicz is running in the Democratic primary against Rep. Christopher Murphy and state Rep. William Tong. In particular, Democratic leadership has publicly praised Murphy as the best candidate for keeping the seat of retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-Conn.).

“Susan Bysiewicz is a statewide leader, a strong voice for reform and transparency in government and a determined advocate for small businesses — and we are proud to put her ‘On the List,’” Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List said. “She is running an excellent campaign, and EMILY’s List is proud to stand with Susan Bysiewicz for Senate.”

Bysiewicz also marks the fourth candidate EMILY’s List, a campaign organization devoted to electing Democratic women who favor abortion rights, put “On the List” this week. The group added three House candidates and fully endorsed Nevada Treasurer Kate Marshall’s special election campaign earlier this week.

Roll Call rates the Connecticut Senate race as Likely Democratic.

Some of the better-known GOP candidates who are still considering campaigns but have not yet jumped into the race include former Rep. Chris Shays, former Rep. Rob Simmons, former Comptroller General David Walker and businesswoman Linda McMahon. Both Simmons and McMahon unsuccessfully ran for Senate last year.
