Wealthy Las Vegas businessman Byron Georgiou still has his work cut out for him in his quest for the Democratic Senate nomination in Nevada.

A new autodial poll from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found Rep. Shelley Berkley leading Georgiou 71 percent to 6 percent in the primary. Four hundred “usual” Democratic primary voters were surveyed July 28-31, and the poll had a 4.9-point margin of error.

Among those surveyed, 59 percent were women and 51 percent considered themselves at least somewhat liberal. After asking respondents whom they favored, the poll asked whether Georgiou should drop out of the race. Thirty-four percent said he should while 15 percent said no.

Berkley is endorsed by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has actively worked to clear the primary field for her. However, Georgiou recently floated the possibility of running in the general as an Independent, which could hurt Berkley’s chances against appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R).
