Former state Rep. Wayne Pettigrew entered the GOP primary race for retiring Rep. Dan Boren’s (D-Okla.) district Monday.

There’s a dearth of Democrats interested in succeeding Boren, increasing the risk the party will lose the seat next year. State Rep. George Faught, plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin, retired Marine Lt. Col. Dakota Wood and attorney Dustin Rowe are already in the mix for the Republican nod.

Local Republicans anticipate Pettigrew, a wealthy insurance company owner, will put some of his own money into his bid. Mullin has already poured six figures of his own cash into his campaign.

Only one Democrat has filed to run for the seat so far: businessman and political novice Wayne Herriman. Oklahoma insiders say a U.S. assistant attorney for the area, Rob Wallace, continues to think about running. Roll Call Politics rates this race a Tossup.
