Congress welcomed its two newest Members, Reps. Bob Turner (R-N.Y.) and Mark Amodei (R-Nev.) when Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) swore in both lawmakers today during a morning series of votes in the House.

Republicans have touted both wins as a sign that the political tide continues to turn against President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats.

Democrats conceded that the New York loss was an especially tough one, as the seat had not gone Republican since the 1920s, but that the specifics of each race propelled the Republicans to their victories.

Turner replaced former Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner, who resigned amid a scandal caused by his sending lewd photos of himself via Twitter. Amodei replaces now-Sen. Dean Heller, who was appointed to the seat of former Sen. John Ensign, who resigned amid the fallout of an extramarital affair and his attempts to cover it up.

The addition of Turner and Amodei brings the total number of Members in the House to 434. There are 242 Republicans and 192 Democrats. The seat of former Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) remains vacant.
