Chris Donovan Earns Jim Maloney’s Backing for House Bid

State Speaker Chris Donovan received support from former Rep. Jim Maloney (D-Conn.) in his bid for the 5th district on Monday.

Donovan is one of several Democratic candidates seeking the seat held by Rep. Christopher Murphy (D), who’s running for Senate next year.

Former state Rep. Elizabeth Esty, public relations executive Dan Roberti and college professor Mike Williams are also running.

The current 5th district is somewhat competitive, but it leans Democratic.

But there’s no word yet what the new 5th district will look like. State officials will tackle the new Congressional map next year.

Donovan serves on the state’s redistricting committee, which means he’ll have input in the shape of the district he’s seeking.

Maloney held the 5th district seat for three terms until 2002, when he lost re-election thanks in part to redistricting. Then-Rep. Nancy Johnson (R) was victorious in the redrawn 5th district.
