Rep. Martin Heinrich (N.M.) announced Wednesday that he raised $650,000 in the third quarter, leaving the two-term Democrat with more than $1.1 million in cash on hand in his campaign for his state’s open Senate seat.

Heinrich is running against state Auditor Hector Balderas for the Democratic nomination and to keep the seat of retiring Sen. Jeff Bingaman in Democratic hands.

In Michigan, former Rep. Pete Hoekstra raised $1 million for his bid against Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D), topping his GOP primary opponent’s haul.

Hoekstra’s Wednesday fundraising announcement comes one day after charter schools executive Clark Durant (R) announced he raised $750,000 in the third quarter of this year.

Hoekstra is widely viewed as the Republican frontrunner to take on Stabenow next year, but Durant’s large haul is impressive. Dick Wadhams, Durant’s campaign manager, confirmed the candidate did not contribute any significant amount of his own funds to the race.

In Arizona, former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D) raised $230,000 in her attempt to rejoin Congress. She has $350,000 in cash on hand and no debt for the third quarter. She is anticipated to run in the 1st district in what was once expected to be a rematch with Rep. Paul Gosar (R), who defeated her in the 2010 midterms, and she said in a statement that voters have “palpable” buyer’s remorse.

But it remains uncertain who her opponent will be because of the massive realignment of the Congressional map.
