Cruz Raises $1 Million for Texas Senate Bid
Former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz raised more than $1 million in the third quarter and ended September with $2.4 million on hand for his Senate bid, his campaign announced Thursday.
That million dollars raised pales in comparison to the money put together by his leading primary rival, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who announced this week that he had raised more than $4.6 million since entering the race in July, including $2 million in personal funds.
When releasing their numbers, both campaigns flagged their in-state financing. According to a Dewhurst’s release, 93 percent of his funds originated from within the state of Texas. Cruz, however, raised 65 percent in-state. His campaign release stressed a broad appeal, with contributions coming in from every state.
Cruz has been a darling among national conservative activists such as RedState’s Erick Erickson and was recently on the cover of the National Review.
