Heard on the Hill: Capitals Star Skates Through Capitol

Most sports studs retreat to the Magic Kingdom after a big win. Washington Capitals star center Nicklas Backstrom recently made do with a tour of the Capitol.

After a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators and his first goal of the nascent NHL season, Backstrom brought the family to Capitol Hill on Monday for a Congressional tour.

“I think it’s great. Great thing and, I mean, nice experience,” Backstrom told HOH about his swing through the chambers.

When pressed about his thoughts on the American political system, Backstrom, a native Swede, replied: “Well, I don’t really know too much about it. I think it works good.”

Backstrom, 23, grew up in an ice hockey family: His dad and brother played hockey professionally.

Although the 2011-2012 season has only just begun, Backstrom noted that the Capitals have gotten off on the right foot.

“Well, we’re 4-0, so that’s a good start,” he said.
