A lesson from October’s campaign trail: Any chance he gets, Herman Cain will soft-rock you like a hurricane.

The Daily Caller reported Saturday that the GOP presidential candidate was kicking it in Tennessee, while all his other candidate buddies were skipping through the early primary states.

Cain boasted that he was rocketing up the polls before breaking out into a swollen rendition of “The Impossible Dream” from the musical hit “Man of La Mancha.” The crowds cheered.

A couple of things struck us as particularly wonderful about this:

1. Cain is clearly having the time of his life out there, which is fun to watch.

2. Republicans singing their feelings seems to be, well, a very Republican thing. Please search YouTube for musical morsels from former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter and former Florida Rep. Joe Scarborough.

3. “Man of La Mancha” is based on Spanish author Cervantes’ classic novel “Don Quixote.” You know, the book about a perfectly lovely man who loses his mind, leaves on a quest, is knighted by an innkeeper, attacks windmills that he thinks are giants, gives up and is restored to sanity?

Cain — who also challenged Americans to consider a world without pizza to the tune of John Lennon’s “Imagine” — is the second GOP candidate who has crooned to a campaign crowd. HOH reported that giant opera fan and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) has been known to regale supporters with his vocal stylings.
