Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly (Va.) was disappointed Monday when he wasn’t chosen for jury duty.

“I’ve always wanted to serve on a jury,” Connolly tells HOH.  “I firmly believe it is every citizen’s duty to serve. And I am no exception.”

It is also telling that he was looking forward to sitting on a jury after this weekend’s big payroll tax cut extension fail. Could it be that he was looking forward to being picked so as to avoid the Hill-side shenanigans?

“Connolly believes in doing his civic duty, both for his home/state community and for his nation,” Connolly spokesman George Burke tells us.

Unfortunately for the Congressman, after he reported to the Fairfax County Court House with 32 others, watched an orientation film and waited four hours, he was dismissed.

“I was delighted to do my part,” Connolly sighed. “But I must admit I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to serve on a jury today.”

We bet he is.

“Hopefully, another opportunity will arise in the future,” he says.
