House GOP to Be Presented With Payroll Tax Deal
Updated: 5:25 p.m.
House Republicans will be presented with a plan today to pass a two-month extension of the payroll tax holiday by unanimous consent Friday morning.
If Members demand a roll call vote on the matter, the vote would likely happen next week. But if they sign off on the legislation, the UC would happen Friday. The Senate is likely to pass the extension by unanimous consent as soon as it is presented with the House product.
The House Republican Conference will have a conference call at 5 p.m., and barring widespread Member opposition, the deal is expected to be accepted by the Conference.
In a statement announcing the deal, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) “will ask the House and Senate to approve this agreement by unanimous consent before Christmas.”
