HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Politics as Theater

It was an eventful Thursday night. While conservatives remained glued to the verbal jousting and palpable tension of “Survivor: South Carolina” (aka the Republican presidential debates), President Barack Obama had a little a cappella fun at a New York fundraiser.

The ad-libber-in-chief plucked a page from the Hermain Cain playbook (not like he’s using it any more) and serenaded supporters gathered at the historic Apollo Theater with a snippet of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”

“And the Sandman did not come out,” Obama quipped, congratulating himself for not getting ushered off stage by the Apollo’s tap dancing critic.

Meanwhile, back in Washington, Republican leaders came up with a big-picture strategy for pre-emptively derailing Tuesday’s State of the Union address. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has released a blockbuster-style movie poster slamming the administration’s purported legislative missteps.

Dear POTUS: Something tells us it’s gonna take more than assigned seating and a few bars of soul music to win over a tough crowd.
