Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk’s (R) best buddy, “My Main Man Manch,” will visit him in the hospital, the Chicago Tribune reports.

West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin will fly to Chicago today to support Kirk, his best friend in the Senate. “I’m sitting by Mark Kirk tonight,” Manchin said. As far as pet names go, Manchin calls Kirk an “Energizer Bunny.”

Kirk suffered a stroke last Wednesday. He and Manchin have been best friends since taking office and host biparty lunches, which pretty much includes the two of them eating together every week.

In fact, the two best friends have even gotten in trouble together!

In an amazing show of partisan ignorance, Manchin even invited Kirk to accompany him to a Democratic Senate budget strategy session. “Well, OK. You’re my buddy,” RealClearPolitics quotes Kirk as saying. Senate Budget Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), on the other hand, was unamused and asked Kirk to leave.

By all accounts, Manchin has been distraught over Kirk’s condition, but is also optimistic that his best friend will recover.
