Ohio: Marcy Kaptur Airs First Ad in Race Versus Dennis Kucinich

Rep. Marcy Kaptur will kick off her television campaign against fellow Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich on Wednesday with a positive, semi-biographical spot.

Kaptur makes no mention of Kucinich in the ad, which aims to introduce her in the Congressman’s home turf — the Cleveland media market — with a $90,000 buy.

Republicans moved Kaptur and Kucinich into the same northern Ohio district last year when they redrew the Buckeye State’s Congressional map. The two Democrats will run against each other in the March 6 Democratic primary in a redrawn 9th district that stretches along the lakeshore from western Cleveland to Toledo.

There’s new territory for both Democrats in the redrawn district, and Kaptur’s first ad serves as her opening pitch to the swath of new voters in Kucinich’s home territory.

“Congress shouldn’t be about money, it should be about service to the people,” Kaptur says in the spot. “I voted against the pay raises for Congress, then gave mine to local charity.”

Democratic media consultant David Heller produced the 30-second spot, titled “Service,” which will run for 10 days.
