Kirsten Gillibrand Does Fashion Week

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) got her haute couture on this morning, popping by Lincoln Center to gawk at the trend-setting frocks as models sashayed down the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Today’s all-star outing — an aide confirmed that Vogue editor Anna Wintour invited Gillibrand to the show — is just the latest chapter in Gillibrand’s fashion-forward thinking. “It’s close to her heart in it being an industry that’s unique to New York City … and her desire not have it move elsewhere,” a Gillibrand aide explained. “She went today to show her support.”

Gillibrand has been making inroads with the fashionistas for the past few years, visiting with several Fashion Week designers in September 2010 and hosting a round-table discussion with emerging talent at the Fashion Institute of Technology in January 2011.

Did any of the Carolina Herrera designs that she witness become must-haves for her personal collection?

Staff suggested no major purchases were made today but noted that Gillibrand “thought the show was very interesting.”

Strike a pose, Senator.
