Democrats Heed the Dinner Bell

A trio of local restaurants hosted some pretty powerful folks this week, welcoming high-ranking administration officials, the first family and champion tennis stars. 

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton got the ball rolling when she grabbed a bite at Cleveland Park mainstay Ardeo + Bardeo on Monday night, lingering with friends over chef Nate Garyantes’ modern American cuisine.

President Barack Obama kept the food bloggers busy when he popped over to Vermilion for Valentine’s Day dinner, treating first lady Michelle Obama to a sustainably sourced meal that was undoubtedly scrumdiddlyumptious. All sides remain tight-lipped, however, about whether POTUS/FLOTUS participated in Executive Chef Anthony Chittum’s transcendent tasting menus or nibbled a la carte.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.)  completed the hospitality hat trick when she and Martina Navratilova camped out with a few friends at Rasika last night, feasting on Executive Chef Vikram Sunderam’s signature palak chaat (yogurt-sweetened spinach), spicy-sweet black cod and mint-spiked green chicken masala (what, no curried cauliflower?).

Suddenly, brown-bagging it all week seems so unfulfilling.
