Like many political observers, HOH was shocked to wake up this morning to find that one of our favorite Members, Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio), had been defeated in Tuesday’s Congressional primary. What could account for this southern Ohio surprise?

While the real political professionals have yet to hack it out, may we at HOH offer our own hypothesis for her loss at the hands of surgeon Brad Wenstrup? Our answer: voters who are careful spellers.

While surfing the Internet today, we couldn’t help but notice that Schmidt’s campaign website, jeanschmidt.com, features a slideshow that has photos of her and spells out for voters her many, many attributes. Among them: “Taypayer Hero.” We can only assume persuadable English teachers in the Cincinnati suburbs were not amused.
