The campaign of former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon released an internal poll showing her up 21 points over GOP rival former Rep. Christopher Shays.

However, that poll comes only a week after a Quinnipiac University poll showed that she held a slimmer 9-point lead over Shays.

McMahon campaign manager Corry Bliss released the campaign’s polling memo in an email to supporters.

The Quinnipiac survey from last week showed that Shays is the stronger general election candidate. In that poll, McMahon trailed in general election matchups with two Democrats by at least a 10- point margin. Conversely, Shays was in a statistical dead heat with both Democratic candidates.

On the Democratic side, the Quinnipiac survey found Rep. Christopher Murphy led former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz by 12 points, but 29 percent of those respondents remain undecided.

Pollster John McLaughlin conducted the McMahon internal poll March 25-26. The poll consisted of live interviews among likely Republican voters and had a margin of error of 4 points.

The Quinnipiac poll was conducted March 14-19. The poll conducted live interviews of 1,622 registered voters on both cellphones and land lines. It had a margin of error of 2.4 points. Within that poll, 429 Republicans and 640 Democrats were polled. The GOP margin of error was 4.7 points, and the Democratic margin of error was 3.9 points.
