With the deadline to adopt Facebook’s contentious “timeline” format looming large — resistance is futile; all stragglers will be assimilated tomorrow — lawmakers from the Old Dominion State are hunting for striking vistas to proudly display.

Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.) led the charge for a new cover photo Monday afternoon via Twitter. Rep. Scott Rigell (R-Va.) followed suit Wednesday afternoon with a similar cyberspace plea. The crowdsourcing bug then took its sweet time (about an hour) crossing the Capitol, ultimately inspiring Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) to ask the Internet for a solid.

Warner is currently leading the pack, amassing 150 far-reaching images from which to choose. (We’re partial to Monticello/Stan Kaslusky, Richmond/True Burns and McAfee’s Knob/Laura Tucker, in that order.) Wittman has collected 16 submissions (we’re down with Williamsburg/Chandler Crenshaw), while Rigell brings up the rear with 10 constituent-supplied snapshots (go hand-held flag/Bobbi L. Taylor!).

Warner’s office plans to select its three favorite photos, rotate them throughout the summer on the Congressman’s official Facebook page and then solicit another round of scenic vistas in the fall.

A Rigell aide said staff would suss out their top picks and present them to the boss for final selection. The winning photo will take its place of honor Friday, though a rotating slideshow sounds like a fait accompli for them as well.

“Truth be told, we’ll feature all of them at some point because they’re all really good!” the Rigell aide suggested.

Update: Warner’s staff just emailed to say they actually got the ball rolling on March 20.
