Eric Cantor Hires Doug Heye

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) has hired longtime GOP communications specialist Doug Heye to head his press office as deputy chief of staff.

Heye takes over for Brad Dayspring, who abruptly left Cantor’s office last month to join the YG Action Network super PAC.

Heye recently helped guide communications as a senior adviser to the Iowa Republican Party ahead of the Jan. 3 presidential caucuses. Before that, he was communications director for the Republican National Committee under its former chairman, Michael Steele.

A North Carolina native, Heye also led communications for Steele’s unsuccessful 2006 Senatorial bid in Maryland and worked on Capitol Hill as a press staffer for Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and former Rep. Richard Pombo (R-Calif.).
