The National Republican Congressional Committee will announce a strong month of fundraising and the beginning of a push for Member dues at today’s GOP political conference meeting.

The NRCC raised $9.3 million in March — a total boosted by its annual fundraising dinner — and ended last month with an impressive $27.1 million in the bank. It’s the strongest financial position the committee has been in at this point in the cycle since the passage of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which eliminated soft money donations to political committees. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ended February with $16.4 million in the bank.

Also to be announced today by the NRCC: a push to collect Members’ dues, led by Texas Rep. Michael McCaul. Freshman Reps. Allen West (Fla.) and Cory Gardner (Colo.) will co-chair the effort. Not coincidentally, West and Gardner were helped substantially by the NRCC last cycle in their competitive races.

“The record-setting financial position we are in today is a product of our strong Member-driven organization,” NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (Texas) said in a statement. “In order to build on this success, I’ve asked Mike, Cory, and Allen to help encourage even more Member participation as we work to strengthen our Majority in the House and ensure that Nancy Pelosi never sits in the Speaker’s chair again.”

The 2012 dues collection effort follows last cycle’s push, led by “Dues Brothers” Reps. Tom Cole (Okla.) and Kevin Brady (Texas).
