Cook Your Way to Brooklyn
It’s Friday, yo!
And while we here at HOH are resigned to logging yet another lost weekend, all you aspiring chefs/cooking enthusiasts out there may want to clear your calendar for the Chinese Take-Out Experiment invading the Rock N Roll Hotel (1353 H St. NE) on Sunday afternoon.
Culinary combatants Theo Peck and Nick Suarez return to Capitol Hill for another installment of their roving cooking competitions, having introduced their “Food Experiments” series last year with their sold-out D.C. Taco throwdown.
This time around, they’ve got their little hearts set on chowing the most creative Chinese cooking they can find. Peck tells HOH that they’ve got 14 contestants lined up for Sunday’s main event (noon to 3 p.m.), but they’d love to have more.
Everyone who participates receives a $50 gift certificate to a local grocery store, while other prizes include fancy-schmancy cookware from Le Creuset, Anolon, Microplane and Wusthof.
The grand-prize winner, chosen by audience vote — tix are $12 per person, which entitles you to one gratis Brooklyn Brewery beer, 20 samples and a vote (a portion of the proceeds goes to food-based charities) — will earn themselves a trip to Brooklyn this December to compete against the 14 other regional champs for ultimate gloria culinarius.
Booked Sunday?
Hang with Peck from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hyde Park Plaza Harris Teeter (600 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, Va.), where he’ll be tempting passers-by with two Brooklyn Beer-laced recipes — his mother-in-law’s Flemish beer stew and a “chocolate stout float with bacon caramel and boozy whipped cream” — and beer samples to boot.
