Cabinet secretaries are just like most of us!

Last week, one eagle-eyed HOH spy sitting in first class noticed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as she was whisked onto a plane leaving Miami.

He was a wee bit surprised when the security detail rushed the secretary and her aide through the upper-class cabin to coach class. You know, where the normals sit.

“In all of her official travel, the secretary follows the standard Federal Travel Regulations,” an HHS spokeswoman tells HOH.

Federal Travel Regulations require that Cabinet secretaries and their staff make like sardines and sit in coach on all flights lasting fewer than 14 hours.

So Sebelius, who is generally relegated to touring these 50 United States and nearby locales, is forced to kick it uncomfortably for her flights.

That goes for journeys with multiple legs, such as her official trip last week to Haiti and Miami.

Sebelius flew to Haiti to “learn about ongoing earthquake recovery efforts and to highlight the United States’ ongoing partnership with the Haitian government to strengthen health care and prevent the spread of infectious diseases,” HHS says.

From Haiti, Sebelius coached over to Little Haiti in Miami and toured a health center before climbing back into coach and returning to D.C.

We are going to bet seeing ongoing earthquake recovery put coach class into perspective.
