Orrin Hatch’s New Song Collaboration

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) was the “musical surprise” at last night’s Grammys on the Hill soiree. The songwriting Senator teamed up with award-winning musician, Monty Powell, on the patriotic tune “High Country,” which officially debuted during the recording industry award ceremony.

Powell said he and Hatch actually hammered out two songs during their brief writing session, estimating that “if we weren’t so jet-lagged, we could have written three or four more.” Powell was joined by songstress Anna Wilson for the inaugural performance:

The assembled crowd certainly seemed to enjoy the soulful tune. And Hatch graciously accepted the round of applause that erupted once the last guitar twang finally trailed off.

Powell assured attendees that he and Hatch would sit down for another writing session some time in the future. No word from Hatch on when/if that brainstorming encore might take place.

We’re also working on tracking down that second song for ya …
