CQ Roll Call continued shoring up its next generation over the recess, welcoming Samuel Christopher DeBatt to the world on April 28.

Weighing in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce, Sam gave his mother, CQ defense staff writer Megan Scully, a chance to provide some news for that day that didn’t involve the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

“Still can’t believe we get to keep him,” the proud mama said.

Her mates on CQ’s Defense Team dropped their usual tough demeanor to gush.

“Please welcome the newest member of the Gun Pod,” Editor Kevin Whitelaw said in a note to his team.

“I got goosebumps. Another little defense junkie,” staff writer Frank Oliveri wrote in response.

For the sake of the Gun Pod’s machismo, we’ll stop there.

Sam’s father, former Capitol Hill staffer Christopher DeBatt, tells HOH that his newborn already has his first nickname. “Sammy ‘no hands’ Debatt, as nicknamed by his 2.5 year-old cousin,” he wrote. (See picture for visual confirmation.)

Sounds like this will be one tough kid.
