In its first television advertising reservation for the fall, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee reserved $14.1 million in Missouri, Montana and Virginia — three states Democrats are looking to hold as they seek to preserve their four-seat Senate majority.

As the Hotline first reported, the DSCC reserved $7.4 million in Virginia, $3.5 million in Missouri and $3.2 million in Montana. The Virginia and Missouri reservations are for Oct. 9 to Nov. 5, and the Montana reservation is from Aug. 28 to Nov. 5, Roll Call confirmed with a Democratic source.

Virginia is the only presidential battleground among the three states, with former Govs. Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) likely to face off for the seat of retiring Sen. Jim Webb (D), who defeated Allen six years ago. Allen is favored to win the June 12 GOP primary.

Sens. Claire McCaskill (Mo.) and Jon Tester (Mont.) are the two most vulnerable Democrats up for re-election. Tester faces Rep. Denny Rehberg (R), while McCaskill won’t know her opponent until after the Aug. 7 GOP primary.

Those three states were also included in the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s initial $25 million reservation of fall airtime. The NRSC also reserved time for the open Democratic seats in New Mexico and Wisconsin, as well as in a state the party hopes to hold: Nevada.

The DSCC recently placed its first independent expenditure of the cycle in North Dakota to assist former Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp’s (D) bid to hold the seat of retiring Sen. Kent Conrad (D).
