The National Republican Congressional Committee released a new ad targeting Arizona 8th district Democratic nominee Ron Barber that ties him to Medicare cuts, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and President Barack Obama.

This ad is part of a $600,000 ad buy through June 4, according to a source. Heavy NRCC spending in this race underlines the value the committee has placed in flipping this seat and how it might influence importance the balance of power and the political narrative heading into the fall.

Democrats are quick to point out that the issue of Medicare cuts also surfaces in the plan House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan released in early April.

Barber is running to succeed his former boss, former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Like the previous NRCC spot, this ad does not mention Barber’s opponent, GOP nominee and veteran Jesse Kelly.

Roll Call Politics rates this race as a Tossup. The special election is set for June 12.
