The National Republican Congressional Committee has released a new negative television ad against Democrat Ron Barber in the special election in Arizona’s 8th Congressional district to replace former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D).

“Higher taxes and more lost jobs,” a narrator says over ominous music. “That’s what we’ll get if we let Ron Barber rubber-stamp the Obama-Pelosi agenda.”

This ad is part of the NRCC’s $600,000 in the district.

On Saturday, Barber picked up an endorsement from the Arizona Republic newspaper.

“Voters would do well to send Ron Barber to Washington. He demonstrates a seasoned understanding of federal issues and congressional process, given his years working as Giffords district manager,” the editorial board wrote. “He shares her moderate impulse to work well with others. He can provide the kind of centrist, constituent-oriented service residents of District 8 got from Giffords and from Republican Jim Kolbe before her.”

Roll Call rates this race as a Tossup. The special election is June 12.
