Crossroads GPS Launches Huge Anti-Obama Ad Buy

Pro-GOP super PAC Crossroads GPS launched a new television ad today knocking President Barack Obama for letting voters down.

The spot is backed by $9.7 million over three weeks on broadcast television in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The ad attempts to tap into voter discontent — charging that Obama has fallen short of what he promised when he ran for president four years ago.

“I supported President Obama because he spoke so beautifully,” says a mother, the main character in the ad. “He promised change, but things changed for the worse.”

In the ad, the mother notes that her adult children can’t find work and are still living with her — and that she can’t afford to retire.

The well-crafted 60-second spot was made by veteran GOP adman Larry McCarthy, according to a New York Times write up of the campaign.

“Criticizing President Obama is a challenging proposition in terms of ads because a lot of your swing voters this year voted for him in 2008,” McCarthy said in the Times. “They genuinely liked him, they thought he had the right message, they thought he was different.”

This Crossroads ad strikes a similar theme to a previous ad from last July.
