When Meghan McCain Met ‘The Joke Man’

Whether busy dressing down Republican presidential hopefuls on cable news, gushing about her love for all-things-men to Playboy, or opening up about passing joints around the table at dinner parties (stay tuned), Meghan McCain lives her life very much out loud.

Yet we were still a little surprised to discover the daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) once spent the holidays with gross-out comedian Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling.

Martling, a longtime contributor to the “Howard Stern Show” and now a satellite radio show host (“Jackie’s Joke Hunt” airs at 7 p.m. EST Tuesdays on SiriusXM’s Howard 101), confirmed to HOH that he, McCain and several other friends celebrated Thanksgiving together in 2007:

The bond was so great, in fact, that when Haven and McCain rolled back through town a few weeks later as part of the 2008 presidential campaign, Martling invited them out to Bayville, N.Y., for some R&R.

“Thanksgiving was the McCain Blogettes’ first day off in months, and I insisted that rather than sit in a New York City hotel room that La-Toria and Meghan rent a car and come to my beloved JokeLand and join us for a nice family Holiday dinner … and they did,” Martling said, depicting an evening replete with, “wine, turkey and all the trimmings, dancing.”

“It was a great one,” he assured us. Additional partygoers included: Martling’s sister, various nieces and nephews, a friend with her children and “a terrific crew of random folks who are constantly coming and going from my home at almost any time, including major holidays.”

The revelry stretched into the following evening, as the group reassembled in New York City to catch Les Paul at the fabled Iridium Jazz Club, then popped back by WOR for an encore appearance on Reynolds’ show.

“Joey couldn’t believe I had a possible presidential candidate’s daughter in tow,” Martling said of the whimsical encounter.

According to Martling, the two have not spoken since. Which is probably best given his current political outlook.

“I’m not active in the presidential election cycle,” Martling asserted. “Other than hating the Republicans with a passion and rooting for President [Barack] Obama.”
