Feast on the Northeast
Most Members of Congress seed snack bowls in their reception areas with little tastes of home.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) prefers to bring hospitality giants to the Capitol for an “Experience New Hampshire” reception — an invitation-only event happening tonight in the Russell Senate Office Building.
The annual eatravaganza (this year marks the third such gathering) is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire State Society and will feature almost two dozen restaurants, bakeries, confectioners, breweries and winemakers from across the Granite State.
The maple-flavored cotton candy appeared to be the big hit last year:
Guests this year will be treated to nibbles and sips from a bevy of local producers, including: Baked Downtown Cafe & Bakery (newish eatery that’s piqued the interest of adventurous Yelpers), Bellows House Bakery (sweets-maker endorsed by Costco), Boggy Meadow Farms (artisan cheese-maker specializing in Swiss), L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates (Facebook founder Mark Zuckerbuerg likes them so much that he served the high-end treats at his hush-hush wedding) and Smuttynose Brewery (we’re partial to their Robust Porter and peaty Scotch Ale.)
