There’s no crying in baseball, but there might be if women lawmakers don’t get their way in an internal fight pitting some of the most powerful Senate Democrats against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and others hoping to make it to tonight’s Congressional Women’s Softball game.

But according to multiple leadership sources, many Senators, including Gillibrand’s delegation partner and No. 3 Democrat Charles Schumer (N.Y.), want to wrap up the massive, five-year $969 billion authorization bill that already has taken up weeks of floor time.

Of course, if Reid and Schumer don’t want to allow Team Congress to have their ace pitcher, we at HOH can support that decision. But we wouldn’t want to be the ones to face the wrath of co-captain Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.). As she demonstrated in a trash-talking floor speech yesterday, she takes winning very, very seriously.

But either way, the Bad News Babes are planning to kick butt and take names tonight.

UPDATE: Gillibrand, Hagan, Ayotte and Collins appear to have prevailed, if barely. The Senate ended voting for the night about 15 minutes before the game was scheduled to start. And all four voted until the end.
