SilverDocs Screens Best of the Fest Today

The SilverDocs Film Festival wrapped up its 10th gathering of documentaries and the filmmakers who make them Sunday.

Today will be all about screening the event’s “Best of the Fest” lineup.

Two of the documentaries in the final lineup grapple with the state of the American health care system, while another is a portrait of the late Texas Gov. Ann Richards. Can’t wait for the Supreme Court’s decision Thursday on the fate of the Affordable Care Act?

Check out “Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue the American Health Care System,” which mixes the politics of the current health care battle. Some of the key players from the Congressional debate and fallout of the ACA are featured, with personal stories.

The Waiting Room” is a day-in-the-life account of a public hospital waiting room in Oakland, Calif., a portrait of a complex and diverse neighborhood that serves as a microcosm for America’s health care system at large.

Ann Richards’ Texas” is a portrait of the Lone Star-sized personality. The film chronicles the Democrat’s rise to the highest seat of Texas power and her turn as liberal icon.

The AFI Silver Theatre is located at 8633 Colesville Road in Silver Spring, Md.
