Funk Descends on National Mall
The Smithsonian Folk Life Festival is set to get down tonight.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture, scheduled to open its brick and mortar portion in 2015 on the National Mall, is bringing funk legends George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk and Meshell Ndegeocello to perform on the National Mall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjKFCYzqq-AThe legendary funksters will perform at the Folk Life Festival’s Panorama Tent, which has been pitched on the Mall between 12th and 14th streets N.W.
And for all the geeks out there, between sets, radio host Tom Joyner will interview the musicians and experts from the African American History Museum on the history of funk music and the effect the genre has had on the mainstream musical landscape.
For non-locals and locals stuck in the office, you can still have a funk-filled night. Check out the live stream here atÂ
