Firebrand former Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) announced today that he raised $820,000 in the second quarter and ended June with about $1.2 million in cash on hand in his bid to return to the House.

Grayson was beaten by now-Rep. Daniel Webster by 18 points in 2010 but is running in the newly configured Orlando-area 9th district, which is friendly to Democrats. It would have voted about 60 percent for Barack Obama in 2008.

“We will use this money to continue a field program that already has been called the best in the country,” Grayson said in a statement. “We have had dozens of staff in the field every day for months. They are talking with voters, spreading our message, and making sure that people know what is at stake in this election.”

Grayson, the presumptive Democratic nominee, will face the winner of a GOP primary between Osceola County Commissioner John “Q” Quiñones, attorney Todd Long, Iraq War veteran and health care consultant Julius Melendez and businessman Mark Oxner.

Roll Call rates the race as Likely Democratic.

Correction: Grayson is running in Florida’s new 9th district, not the 10th.
