Shop Talk: Crossing the Blue Line
Tory Mazzola is leaving the New Hampshire Republican State Committee to join Bauer, the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of ice hockey, roller hockey and lacrosse equipment.
Mazzola, a lifelong hockey fan and veteran of the Congressional Hockey Challenge, starts Aug. 6 as global communications manager at the Exeter, N.H.-based company.
Mazzola joined the state party in November after more than two years as northeast regional press secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee. He previously served as communications director for former Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) and Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.).
New Hampshire GOP Chairman Wayne MacDonald hired Jon Simons to replace Mazzola as executive director. Simons, a New Hampshire native, was associate campaign director for DDC Advocacy in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was manager of government affairs for the American Hotel and Lodging Association and held positions at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and on former Rep. Jeb Bradley’s (R-N.H.) unsuccessful re-election campaign in 2006.
“Jon brings to our leadership team a well rounded local and national political, policy and management background that will allow us to continue to build upon our recent successes and keep us on a path to victory in November,” MacDonald said.
Taking American Action
Trent Edwards and Brook Hougesen have joined a consortium of Republican-aligned groups.
Edwards was hired as director of development and Hougesen as regional press secretary for the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC focused on holding the House majority for Republicans, and its nonprofit affiliate American Action Network.
Edwards, who was chief of staff to Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.), will help manage the groups’ fundraising alongside Pete Meachum. He was previously director of field finance for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Hougesen joined the groups after serving as spokeswoman on Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s (R-Ill.) successful primary campaign against Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.). She previously worked in the House press offices of Kinzinger and Reps. Geoff Davis (R-Ky.) and Peter Roskam (R-Ill.).
In separate press releases for each group, Brian O. Walsh, a veteran GOP House strategist who serves as president of both groups, called Edwards and Hougesen a “critical asset” in building on Republican gains in 2010 and said they “further enhance” American Action Network’s issue advocacy efforts.

Public affairs consultant Chris Henick signed on as a senior adviser to RAP Index, a key contacts software service designed for advocacy professionals.
Henick, the founder and chairman of Blueprint Advisors, will help the firm deepen its market penetration and identify emerging market opportunities.
“As we continue to expand our footprint in the world of advocacy software, it is vital that we seek the advice, counsel and strategic knowledge of those who understand our market,” Chip Felkel, the chief advocacy innovator at RAP Index, said in a statement. “Blueprint Advisors, and specifically Chris Henick, bring that kind of expertise.”
Henick called RAP Index “the next generation of direct relationship advocacy tools.”
Matrimonial Chairs
Hawaii Republican Party Chairman David Chang married his predecessor, Beth Fukumoto, on Saturday.
The two wed at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Honolulu followed by a private reception at Hickam Officers’ Club, according to a press release.
Fukumoto began serving as interim Hawaii GOP chairwoman last fall, but she opted not to seek the position permanently so she could run for a seat in the state House. Chang was named chairman in November.
Rockin’ Robyn
Liberty Torch Political Consulting has signed up Robyn Hamlin, a Republican running an anti-establishment campaign in Missouri’s 1st district.
The firm helps libertarians seeking public office, and David Adams, Dave Nalle and Josiah Schmidt are now assisting Hamlin, an activist for Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), with two weeks to go before the Aug. 7 Republican primary.
