Connecticut: Christopher Shays Goes on TV Ahead of GOP Primary

Former Rep. Christopher Shays is going on the air after all, less than two weeks after he announced he would not run TV ads in the lead-up to the Aug. 14 GOP Senate primary in Connecticut.

His campaign today released a new, positive television ad featuring his wife, Betsi.

Bergen said the campaign got a financial infusion from supporters after Shays said he wouldn’t be going on TV ahead of the primary. Shays’ rival for the GOP nomination is former WWE CEO Linda McMahon, who has spent extensively on television for months.

As of the end of June, Shays had just $327,000 in his campaign account compared with McMahon’s $1.5 million (she has partly self-funded her campaign).

The winner of the GOP primary will face Rep. Christopher Murphy (D) in November in the contest to replace retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman (I). Roll Call rates the race as Likely Democratic.
