A new poll commissioned by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee found vulnerable Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.) leading his Republican challenger, state Sen. David Rouzer, by 19 points. That’s a very different image than the one painted by a GOP poll released Monday, which found McIntyre leading Rouzer by only 4 points.

The Democratic survey found McIntyre led Rouzer 53 percent to 34 percent, including those who were undecided but leaned toward one candidate or the other.

Thirty-seven percent of likely voters polled said they had a favorable impression of the Congressman, according to a polling memo. Fifteen percent said they had an unfavorable view of him, while 21 percent said they had never heard of McIntyre.

Redistricting made North Carolina’s 7th district significantly more Republican.

The poll, conducted by the Democratic firm Grove Insight, was in the field July 26-39 and used live telephone interviews to poll 400 likely voters in the district. The margin of error was 4.9 points.
