The seniors lobby AARP today released its 2012 voters guide for presidential, Senate and House candidates. It focuses on politicians’ positions on Social Security, Medicare and financial security in retirement.

It does not endorse specific candidates.

“We are doing our part to make sure that voters 50-plus have reliable information from candidates on these important issues,” AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond said in a press statement. “We think the candidates would be wise to do more themselves, as well.”

The guide, available online at earnedasay.org, features quotes and policy bullet points put out by President Barack Obama, presumptive GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Congressional candidates.

It seeks to answer basic questions that AARP says are atop seniors’ minds: how would candidates protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare, and how would they help Americans build a financial nest egg for their retirements.

The voters guide comes on the heels of an AARP survey earlier this month that showed voters over age 50 want more information from candidates on those signature issues.

AARP noted in its press release that it is nonpartisan and “does not support or oppose any political candidates, nor contribute any money to political action committees, campaigns or super PACs.”

In coming weeks, the seniors lobby plans to release similar state voting guides.
