Sounding Off on Todd Akin, American Style

While the Republicans are in Tampa, Fla., doing their best to ignore Rep. Todd Akin (who, mercifully for them, isn’t attending the convention), two Missourians are still mocking the political pariah and Missouri GOP Senate nominee in the most American way possible. They have started a business selling something that people may or may not need!

Amanda Zaydman and a man named Andrew have launched the “illegitimate whistle” company.

“We’d like to introduce Illegitimate Whistle — a company inspired by the legitimate stupidity of Todd Akin’s recent comments about women and rape,” writes Zaydman upon the blog. “For those of you who are not familiar with his statements, you can watch a video of his interview on Fox 2 KTVI. Some of the highlights include his assertion of a woman’s ability to ‘shut that whole thing down’ in cases of ‘legitimate rape.'”

The pair are now selling whistles, which can presumably be used as a form of defense if a person is being assaulted. Perhaps just as helpful, the whistle can also be used as a way to draw attention to the stupidity of others.

The profits from the sale of the $10 whistles will go to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.
