CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The war for the votes of women inspired an Illinois Democrat to make 1,000 “Sluts VOTE” buttons, which are going fast at the Democratic National Convention.

“They are going like hotcakes,” said Barb Brown, a delegate from Chester, Ill. Brown said Kim Hess of Granite City, Ill., was inspired to make the buttons because of the dustup between Sandra Fluke and Rush Limbaugh earlier this year, when Limbaugh called the Georgetown student a “slut” for testifying at an unofficial hearing held by Democrats in favor of the new federal mandate that insurance companies provide contraception coverage.

Brown said that most people recognize that the buttons are about the Limbaugh remark and the larger battle over contraception, which she said has helped Democrats. Contraception is “central to women” and their ability to control their own financial well-being, she said.
