Bill Clinton will attend a Southern California rally on Tuesday to formally endorse Democratic Congressional candidates in a region fertile with pickup opportunities for the party.

The former president is scheduled to attend a “California’s Voice” afternoon rally at the University of California, Irvine, a serene, suburban Orange County campus between Los Angeles and San Diego. There he will endorse five candidates either challenging a Republican incumbent or running for an open seat.

Candidates attending the rally include San Diego Port Commissioner Scott Peters (D), who is challenging Rep. Brian Bilbray (R) in the 52nd district, and physician Raul Ruiz (D), who is taking on Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R) in the Palm Springs-based 36th district. The open-seat candidates attending are state Assemblywoman Julia Brownley from the Ventura-based 26th district, state Sen. Alan Lowenthal from the Long Beach-based 47th district and Riverside Community College Board Trustee Mark Takano from the 41st district.

It’s the latest campaign trail stop for Clinton, who has been busy stumping and raising money for President Barack Obama and down-ticket Democrats. It’s even the second time he’s stopped in California for House candidates this month — he rallied supporters at the University of California, Davis, near Sacramento two weeks ago.
