Daily Ad Track

Here’s what cut through the clutter today.

Connecticut Senate

If this cycle has proved anything, it’s that the best way to knock around one’s opponent without seeming outright sinister is to hire an actor and portray the opposition as an idiot. This new spot from former WWE CEO Linda McMahon takes the concept to a whole new level with its portrayal of Democratic rival Rep. Christopher Murphy.!

Buzzfeed described it as “strange and amazing.” For us, it brought to mind one of the greatest movie endings ever:

Georgia’s 12th

Rep. John Barrow (D) is making his third Daily Ad Track appearance this cycle. There is no other candidate who has produced so many clever and offbeat spots. Steve Murphy of the firm Murphy Vogel Askew Reilly is the man behind the ads. State Rep. Lee Anderson (R) is challenging Barrow. This is Barrow’s newest:

 Utah’s 4th

Who knew coordinated talking points could be so dangerous? The National Republican Congressional Committee takes tying Rep. Jim Matheson (D) to the president to a new level. The ad split screens President Barack Obama and Rep. Jim Matheson (D) making identical statements. It comes after the NRCC released a spot linking Matheson’s Republican challenger, Mia Love, to GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who should carry this district by a wide margin.

NRCC Political Director Mike Shields tweeted today that it hearkens back to this ad, from a Nevada special election:

Joshua Miller, Jessica Taylor and Kyle Trygstad contributed to this report.
