Church & State Pours

Regardless of your religious or political affiliations, Church & State is there to serve the thirsty masses.

The H Street Northeast cocktail lounge is hosting the first of its own tasting series Wednesday night, welcoming Koval Distilleries to pour its Lion’s Pride craft whiskey line.

Koval, which brews in Chicago, seems quite proud of its Pride line, billing it as an organic “single-grain, single-barrel whiskey” that “contains only the pure heart cut distillate of our single-grain white whiskeys, aged in new American Oak barrels from The Barrel Mill in Minnesota.”

You’ve heard of farm-to-table restaurants? Sounds like this comes close to being still-to-bar.

“From mashing to distilling to aging, we do not outsource any step of the process or purchase whiskey base. We also source our grains from the Midwest, controlling the entire process from grain to bottle” is how the Koval folks put it.

At any rate, Church & State owner Erik Holzherr and his merry band of cocktail mixers always throw a good party. It gets under way at 8 p.m. at 1236 H St. NE, upstairs.

Advance tickets are $20. For more info, check out dcchurchandstate.com.
