C-SPAN Goes Deep

We can’t help but think that among those eagerly awaiting the return of Congress are our hardworking friends over at C-SPAN.

On Monday, as members of Congress were either packing for, or on their way back to, Washington, we checked out what the cable chronicler of all things Congress was running on C-SPAN and C-SPAN2, normally their purview being floor proceedings for the House and the Senate.

On C-SPAN, we were treated to the Halifax International Security Forum’s Nov. 17 panel on Chinese economic and political power. From that panel we learned from Kazuyuki Yamazaki, the ambassador for policy planning and international security policy at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that “China is trying to advance in the world.”

Switching over to C-SPAN2, we were intrigued to see former Washington, D.C., Councilman Kevin Chavous speaking about education policy at the Sept. 13 Gen Next conference in San Diego, Calif. — in case you missed it the first time.

But it surely was a relief for C-SPAN2 viewers when the Senate came back in at 2 p.m. Monday and lawmakers immediately began to bluster about the filibuster.
